Fairmore Medical Practice

Dear Patients,

Fairmore Medical Practice was created in 2008 by the local East Lancashire Primary Care Trust. We (the Integral Healthcare practice team led by Dr Sudhir Malhotra) created the three sites and developed the patient list size which has grown from zero to just under 6000 patients over a period of 9 years. We have supported patients from across Nelson, Padiham and Rawtenstall creating a unique three-site accessible service along with extended opening hours for the local population.

Being a new type of NHS contract, these contracts have to mandatorily be re-tendered at the end of a fixed contract period. (This is not the case for all GP Practices). Thereby, the local Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) had decided to undertake the process of a re-procurement over 9 months ago. Our current Fairmore team, which is led by ourselves under the auspices of Integral Healthcare (a General Practitioner led team) had to re-apply for our own contract along with multiple other providers. Despite having put together a robust corporate bid, we have been advised by the CCG that the contract was won by a tripatriate group that comprises of the local Hospital Trust, Padiham Medical Practice and Waterfoot General Practice.

Understandably, as a Practice and management team, we have been rather disappointed with this decision made by the Clinical Commissioning Group but we have been assured that this was a fair and equitable process and that the awarded team had higher scores on paper than ourselves.

We have been informed that our contractual term at the Practice will finish on 30th September 2017. From 1st October, the clinical care and responsibility for all of Fairmore Medical Practice’s patients shall be taken over and delivered by this collaborative group.

We are currently working with the Clinical Commissioning Group and the new provider group to ensure that there is a smooth handover of the current services. We will ensure that we have a thorough and effective handover to the new team. – all clinical patient related issues as well as management related issues. As your General Practitioners, we are very much aware that your health and wellbeing on all current ongoing issues and treatments will continue to be supported effectively and seamlessly by the new team as part of this transfer.

The current Fairmore Medical Practice team with the exception of the following individuals, will continue to work under this new provider:

  1. The Practice Manager - Amanda Collins shall be leaving the Practice once handover is complete on 30th September
  2. Dr Sudhir Malhotra who has tirelessly led the Practice and its clinical services shall stay to support a transitional period of a month before leaving on 3rd November
  3. The Medical Director for Integral Healthcare, Dr Rajkumar, and the Director of Operations, Julie McCann shall also be stepping down from the Practice on 30th September.

We do believe that East Lancs Clinical Commissioning Group and the new team who intend to run Fairmore Medical practice from the 1st October will do their utmost best to ensure that there are no risks posed to patient care or lapses during this transitional period.

The Practice Manager and the Senior Receptionists at each site would be happy to take any queries in relation to all of the above. These queries can be dealt with by directly approaching the Practice, by writing in or by emailing the Practice on

Lastly, as a Practice team that has successfully established Fairmore with consistently high quality ratings and a CQC rating of Good, we would like to thank all of you for having supported the Practice, its growth and for also having celebrated its achievements over the years.

Any queries that you may have in relation to the future services of Fairmore Medical Practice after 1st October 2017 should be directed to NHS East Lancashire CCG.

The Fairmore Team
